I'm at sort of a break between subjects or series of blogs, and thought it would be fun to get in a "footnote" sort of mood.
There are so many authors and participants in this process, that it begs a list of who and where to go.
I have to qualify this, because I am very careful about who I recommend as well as what I recommend. To explain that a little further: Everyone has a "tilt" on their views, I'm no exception: I want you to know up front what my tilt is. This way you can judge it for your own, without having to spend the time to go through umpteen blogs to get the information you need.
Toward that end below are some of my favorite resources, with comments:
The Bible: there are several resources
- The Bible on One Page - easy to click on a hyperlink to go where you want.
- Parts or whole sections with various versions from Bible Gateway
Catherine Ponder - there are lots of sites, but here is her main one
The Secret - a valuable resource of material to rescue you from your own or other demons.
The Message - this book started as a series of sermons on the Bible, and has evolved into this wonderful, modern-day translation of the Bible. Also available is Conversations, which has blurbs from the author about more meaningful passages throughout the Bible. You can not read the Beatitudes in this Bible and not be touched!
PC Study Bible - I love this thing - remember I'm a closet geek. (If you met me I wouldn't immediately go into binary speak, I would at least wait an appropriate 10 minutes!!!) I love stuff I can do word or phrase searches on and in a number of different ways and parameters. The version I have here is the most basic, which I adore. There are other much more powerful version of this software.
Lifeway - We're fortunate enough to have one of these in our town, and I love perusing through their stuff and their staff is really helpful.
Google - I'm always looking for free stuff on this topic as it can be so easily turned into a ponzi scheme. Remember the search is half the fun and educational. It can also be a great source of ideas on helpful quotes, blessings, devotions and other helpful resources to get you through your tough times. Use it! And of course I'm talking about the legal, moral and non-fattening ways to get you through tough times!
Google Images - I'm an artist (duh!) and I'm therefore very visual (I'm also a musician and music is something that I can not live without and that can stir the deepest feelings in me at a moment's notice). I use this all the time, and come up with the greatest ideas.
OK - Good luck & so go out there and have some fun looking around for some words that will help you.
