This is a lot easier than you think, and a lot more important once you need them.
We all get into "funks" - where no matter what the demons grab us and shake us and won't let us go, no matter how logical, reasonable and practical we may reason with the demon. The demon has us and we're in a downward spiral . We can't seem to stop. We can't seem to get the demon to let go either - we're caught in a spiral of negative thought and we know that if we don't get out of it, we'll spend a considerable amount of time and energy worrying about it, trying to logicallly reason ourselves out of it and just generally arguing with someone (a demon of all things) that is illogical, unreasonable and just won't let go.
What in the world to do?....you've tried everything and nothing works.
Well, you need to attack this before it happens, cause once you're in that "funk", it's hard as the dickens to "reason" your way out. Demons don't like reason; the don't respond well to reason; and sometimes they just set up tents in your head, and they're there for however long they want.
You'll need some Mood Shifters. In The Secret, these are called Secret Shifters, and they are vital for getting out of this negative thought.
We all know too well, that negative thought is NOT where you want to be and it is a place that you need to not only keep away from but if you do stumble upon your demons and wake them up, you need to clobber them back to sleep again - quickly!!!
What you will want to do is gather
some music, pictures, video, stories, books, quotes, sayings,
scriptures, prayers - anything that instantly makes you feel happy.
Remember when you were a kid, and you rode the bike for the first time without the training wheels? You got it!!! Remember when you got your license, and you drove in the car for the first time? What a feeling of freedom. Remember your first paycheck? Remember that music that played when you were a sophomore in college at the "Library" (every college town had a bar named the Library just so kids could tell their parents they were "at the Library" at night!!!!)?
Remember any thing that made you feel happy and really great? Get it out, get it ready for when you get attacked by the "mean reds" (From Holly: "The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you're afraid and you don't know what you're afraid of." Pretty accurate!). At a moment's notice, when the demons come knocking, get out your Mood Shifters, and start to work on those demons.
The sure clue that you have reached the positive thought(s) that work for you is when you start having good feelings. This is exactly what you are looking for.
If you're saying something, but it doesn't quite do the trick, then let go of that and try something else. It might be a picture on your vision board, a piece of music, a type of meditation, scripture verse, it could be a thought of philosophy or quote. It is what works for you. You will know it when you hit it, because you will have been meditating (so that your mind is open to these feelings/thoughts), but also because you start to feel good. You will start feeling as if you can make it through anything, because you are feeling good, even in the face of lack.
Yeah - I know - sounds really weird, but there you are. This is why Jesus's command to believe was so important - if you believe, it is all possible. And it is that simple....
....and that hard!
