Holly Golightly (played by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's), said the best way to get rid of the "mean reds" was to have breakfast at Tiffany's. According to Holly, "The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you're afraid and you don't know what you're afraid of."
To chase away her mean reds, she would get a roll and eat it in front of the windows at Tiffany's and dream.
Holly wasn't all that lost, even though she may have appeared that way in Truman Capote's book. It's just she didn't stay with it long enough to work, and she had some pretty shallow other goals, primarily her all-consuming desire to marry a millionaire.
Her description of being absolutely desolate were very accurate with the mean reds, and her cure wasn't all that bad....she wanted to dream at the windows of Tiffany's. Which isn't a bad remedy, however she probably could have used a longer-term goal. Tiffany's and their products can make you happy for a short time - not to say anything against Tiffany's. But if this is your end goal, you may want to do a little more soul searching.
I'm sure this isn't your end goal - so onward....past Tiffany's and dealing with the mean reds.
We all have the mean reds, and once you admit that, you're ahead of the game. But that's not the real question - do we all suffer from doubt and the doubt demons running amok in our head and just generally messing up our spirit and soul and anything else that might be sacred inside our souls? You bet we all do. Check out the most famous and successful entrepreneurs and there was always a moment of weakness.
But they got through it. How?
There are a lot of valuable techniques that work through this....in the next couple of blogs I'll talk about my favorites.
As I've said before, I can only tell you what has worked for me.
Next are some of my favorite cures for the mean reds!
