There's a lot of information that I used in my healing and recovery from my disaster, and I'll try and pass that on in as organized and useful manner possible, but sprinkled throughout all this, you will need a pep talk.
This is a good time to sit quietly and think about where you are. Whether you are one week, one month, one year or one decade out from your life-changing moment, it's necessary to evaluate where you are and where you've been and where you're going. You want to go in the right direction after all.
If this is all still very new and you're still in shock, be very, very gentle with yourself and get ready to get very, VERY single-minded....bordering on obsessed. You're going to get obsessed about taking care of you; about what you want; about where you want to go or what you want to be; and most of all a good grip on what your dreams are.
After you do this, get ready to start some blessings and verses. It is vital that you start off with these. Think of this as a prescription for the trauma that you've just been through - only it's legal and not addictive (well, it is, but it's a good addiction!) You're going to be watching the scales while you put your spirit, mind and emotions on a good diet of healthy spiritual food.
What is that good food? It is what feeds your spirit and makes it full with joy, love, gratitude, passion, happiness, excitement, joyful expectation, hope satisfaction - not drugs or addictive behaviors.
I know, I know - you're saying to yourself "This lady is off her crock - I've just lost just about everything in my life, and she wants me to start bounding around like some sort of joyful idiot! I don't think so!"
But you gotta start someplace, and this is the place to start. I want you to change the chemistry in your brain. I want you to start thinking positively - in a real way - not just faking it. I want you to believe it. Remember that verse "Ask, Seek, Knock?" Well, believe is all Christ asks. Believe it.
Enjoy and relish the search for this. Google what you think is beneficial for you.
Here's an example. I am very liturgical (are you bored of me saying that yet?....Well, good cause I'm sure I'll say it again!!!). So I had to find resources, books and authors that were not over-enthusiastic or I would totally miss the message. Evangelical or fire & brimstone are not my thing. They turn me off to any sort of message that comes in that vein. So I had to find something that was straight from the Bible without any "spin" on it. Since I'm more of a traditionalist, I also had to find authors and biographies that were more historical rather than the new celeb du jour.
That was my take. Yours is most likely different. We all have filters that sort out what is best for us. Find out what that is and use it.
Don't worry about the probability or the possibility of your prayers to God. That's not our job. Our job is to ask and believe. It's those who ask, seek, knock and then believe in Christ, whose prayers are answered. Do NOT forget this. These words are in the Bible (repeated almost ver batim in each gospel) for a reason and every thing is possible and nothing is impossible in His name.
Take stock in what you have and be thankful for it. Bless your resources you have at hand so that they can be put to the most use. Sit back and look at what you have - the resources you have access to right now. Not only your financial and physical resources, but your human resources - your mind, your imagination. These resources can't work if you are constantly beating down bad thoughts about yourself. The actual brain chemistry changes when you start thinking down about yourself, as opposed to up about yourself. This is not denying the reality of the world these days, but it is rising above it. Realizing the horrific times that are happening, and then not only surviving but flourishing because of them.
I know - this sounds confusing. But download some of my fav prayers, blessings, and quotes and sayings and read some biographies of some people you admire - how did they get to where they are?...did they have to suffer?....did they undergo tough times?....how did they respond to those tough times? This is all extra resources and manna that you can obtain for yourself.
The main thing to remember here is not to let the negativism beat you down. You must remember how utterly special you are. You are on this Earth for a reason, and you haven't fulfilled that reason till you die - and you ain't dying.....yet!!!! OK, that's meant to be funny - so LAUGH!!!
As you stand on the brink of who you are about to become, be gentle with yourself.
