One of my most favorite things to do (and yes, I've talked with a shrink about this) is to match fabric - the more intricate the more fun.
And on top of that I love toile, which is usually in intricate pastoral scene (but can be other topics) mostly in blue with white ground, but can be in red, black, green and a few other colors.
It is mostly on a white ground, but there are some on a tan or a dusty celery color. I had this vision in my mind of this neutral celery green ground with a red design on it - so I set out to find something like this. Locally we have some outstanding upholstery shops, but not as much selection in fashion fabrics, so I'm taken to doing the typical Scarlet O'Hara imitation - my upholstery look - in case you've forgot:
Made more famous by Carol Burnett - how could you not love this!
But back to my dilemma - finding the fabric - that's always my problem, but this time I hit gold:
Not only did I find the colors I was looking for, but even a bit topical for me! In case you haven't read about my other life (besides being an artists, I'm also an underwater photographer).
See - nice seascape....not Venus on a half shell - but Zeus on a half shell - what could be more perfect.
Because it's really fun to match this fountain
So now this matched elegantly beautiful in front and the besom pockets are beautiful (although they are a pain to do), but the oxblood red suede makes a great contrast.
The pockets have this ending corner which if you hit just right looks smashing, but the darts made this jacket fit like a dream - it couldn't have been better.
The red suede looks great. I originally had in mind a jacket for my OU Sooners, but after I finished it, I couldn't resist. It's a simple cotton jacket that will probably be more formal than for a football game!
This jacket was a lot of fun to make. It took me a year, however not because I sewed everyday on it. But because I finished the jacket and then didn't get the lining in for another year, but once I got it done, it looks great. I also have a pair of oxblood red corduroy pants that go fabulously with it.
