There's a great sew-a-long out there from Barbara in which she's going to sew 10 new shirts. All this is explained on her blog, where you can also join her.
There are NEVER too many white shirts a gal can have in her closet, and I've been wanting a new one for a long time. Ever since Bunny did the little Sew Beautiful/Heirloom Sewing Blog tour (and if you haven't seen it - warning - it's addictive), I've been wanting to do some lace insertion type stuff for a blouse.
So I was at my local fabric emporium and the girls have moved things around - the wools up front and the linens in back, and found some gorgeous lace insertions with banded with entredeux. I went nuts, and quickly picked up some and some white to make a blouse
So far this is where I'm going:
This is a variation of Marcy Tilton's

This didn't take too much....drafting that collar so that it would fold down a little more, lengthening it, interfacing the color so it will stand up (that requires a lot of thought - how to arrange stuff) and draft a sleeve (ugh, but fortunately I know how to do that...more on that later).
So here's what I ended up with from the store that got me all excited about this project.
This picture brings up another subject about photographing white. I've done a lot of that (with debs & brides) and had to make the subject too dark, just to see the detail in the white gown. That's what happened here.
Can't wait to do this - albeit totally out of season - it's getting cold here, but at least all you can see the detail in the lace insertion.
